The ultimate goal of the youth ministry of West Lynchburg Baptist Church is to produce well-balanced*, mature Christians who will represent Christ in their homes, on their campuses, at work, or wherever they might be. The solution is found not merely in keeping our youth busy, but rather leading them into a deep, personal, life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. The youth ministry is successful when our young people are becoming better sons and daughters, better students, better employees, better friends, better citizens, and as a result, better witnesses for Jesus Christ. Luke 2:52 “He (Jesus) grew in wisdom (intellectual/emotional) and stature (physical) and in favor with God (spiritual) and men (social).” The goal of our youth Bible study is to change lives through… The Word the living word of Jesus Christ (John 1:1) the written word of God – the Bible (2 Tim. 3:16) Shared Experiences youth and teacher sharing common experiences... the learner observing the teacher at times other than Sunday. Ralph Neighbor states that the Greek word for teacher indicates that the "one who possesses this gift does not simply impart knowledge; the teaching is also done through a life observed.” COMING EVENTS

The EDGE meets on the third floor of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. $10 + Dinner Money Friday, August 20 The time of papers, exams, homework, and football is here again and what better way to celebrate (mourn) the ending of summer than a Toga Party. We’ll start the party around 5:30pm and then at 6:30pm we’ll leave for the Mayberry Drive-In in our togas. We should get there early enough to eat some dinner at the 60s style diner. Movie tickets are $7 + tax and I do recommend the students have enough money to purchase a movie ticket (always double feature) and a dinner. At sunset the double feature beings. Most likely we will return to Lynchburg very late. I’m offering a ride home to everybody, so if you would like me to drop your child off at your house or a specific location please just let me know ahead of time so I can plan who I’m going to drop off first and last. The reason this event costs $10 + Dinner Money is because the $10 goes to the church, who will buy everybody’s tickets, and use the change for gas. Although the students are to give me the $10, they will be keeping their dinner money in their own pockets. FREE
Game Night
August 25 – 6:30pm Most of the schools have begun by August 25 and it’s time to mourn yet celebrate the end of our summer. Now that we’re in the midst of lectures again, we going to have a game night to breath before the papers and tests build up. We’ll start up our Wednesday night out our usual 6:30pm time and end at 7:30pm. But in order to have an epic game night we need lots of games. Please remind your youth to bring his/her favorite games this night. However, we will not be playing video games - card games, board games, mental games, and goofy games only. Secret Sunday Surprise $7.00

Do to the sensitive nature of the Secret Sunday Surprise I cannot release the information of this event. I can tell you this though, we’ll leave after the evening service and I will have the youth call when we’re done (no later than 10pm). If you would like me to take your child home, please let me know ahead of time so I can figure out a route. Contact Brother Nathan for more information.  |
